I’m Kyle Bartel and I build custom homes, cabinetry and millwork, and original furniture.

I bring one project to life at a time with a carpenter’s hands, an eye for design, and a love of real wood and traditional joinery. I work directly with each client bringing ideas for their own homes into form in a simple and honest process.

I spent my early years working in ecological forestry, which is where I learned about trees and lumber and gained insight into the strength, versatility, and beauty of wood.  Following a downturn in the forestry sector in the ‘90’s, I started my carpentry career with Stewart Construction in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, building custom homes with the time honored methods learned from the last generation of rural carpenters who could do everything from pouring the concrete foundation to building the kitchen cabinets from raw wood.

After moving to Halifax in 2008 I started my own construction company and Bartel Fine Home Building was incorporated in 2011. Since that time I have built everything from small home additions to large condominium buildings but have always returned to working with wood, which is the medium that I love the most.

I now focus on individual custom projects which involve elements of wood and design
